Turtle Island Gallery Barney McLeod
 
Barney McLeod is an Ojibway Stonecarver, born and raised in a small town in Northern Ontario (Matachewan).He first learned carving by watching his maternal grandfather.in later years he put this knowledge to practical use carving wood to restore fine antiques whle living in Toronto.

Barney began carving stone at teh Canadian National Exhibitionin Toronto, and later, participated in the Earth Spirit Festival which brought together visual and performing artists from the Japanese, Inuit and Native cultures.Barney has done exhibitions in Texas and Florida, and continues to teachg in various schools throughout the lowermainland.

Barney has personal experience with the Bear in nature, and stays true to his culture roots by honouring the Bear as the primary subject of his carvings.In this way he continues toeducate and inform people of the diminishing Bear population.For Barney, the Bear will live forever.
