Turtle Island Gallery Dean Heron

Dean Heron was born in Watson, Yukon, in 1970.He is a member of the Tlingit Nation, whcih covers large portions of Northern B.C., the Southern Yukon Territory and most of the state of Alaska. He presently lives and works in Victoria, B.C.Dean comes from a very artistic background. He grew up in a family where both his older sister and father are painters. His sister specializes in watercolours, while his father works mainly in oils.Dean's birth father is also an artist.Dean's paintings are all done in acrylic and gouace paints and they follow a particularly "northern" style.Colours are generally restricted to black, red and a bluish-green.Although Dean is self-taught, he takes inspiration from other northern artists such as Dempsey Bob and Robert Davidson. He is hoping to learn more about other media such as carving and jewellery design.
